What You Get:Each 6-10 page issue carries a lead article with market analysis or advice on investing. Topics in the past year have included such things as Small caps in a two-tier market, How to make selling easier, and Get ready for the 4th energizer (about the wave of tax cuts he sees energizing the economy for the next decade). Sprinkled throughout each issue are additional analyses and sidebars. But the bulk of each issue is taken up with profiles or updates on specific stocks. Examples included in his sample pages online include Seagram Company and Thomson Corporation. Check them out to get an idea of the flavour of his analyses. He rates the stocks on nine factors: - long-term profit record Based on his assessment of these factors, a stock can be rated as Start-up, Speculative, Extra Risk, Average, Above Average and Highest Quality. He may still recommend a stock as a buy even though it is rated as Extra Risk or a Start-up. The rating is the risk factor. Quarterly he includes a Portfolios Supplement. He features three portfolios - the Portfolio for Investors Seeking Income, the Conservative Growth Portfolio and the Aggressive Growth Portfolio. Each includes 25-40 different stocks with their ratings and buy, sell or hold advice. He also includes a section called Top U.S. Stocks for Conservative Investors. These are 10-15 in number. Although his track record is generally good, he does occasionally pick a clunker, such as Fracmaster which went belly up. His Conservative Growth Portfolio as of September 1999 had 35 stocks that were up since he recommended them and only 5 that were down. On the other hand, his Aggressive Portfolio was split 21-10.
