Bowridge was established as a venture capital company with the aim of acquiring and developing certain niche market firms in the oil services industry. It has acquired four such businesses in the last 18 months - Central Production Testing Limited (CPT) and its subsidiary Computest Gas Testing, which provide specialized high pressure and sour gas production testing services; ProbeTech Data Management, which provides data acquisition and analysis management; and Toran Power and Equipment, the largest renter of power generation equipment to the oil industry. Besides diesel generators, Toran now offers natural gas powered generators to help gas producers minimize costs.
Bowridge plans to continue growing through intenal growth, mergers and acquisitions with an intermediate target of $100 million in sales. The company is financially strong with a debt to equity ratio of .26.
The stock is a recent (April 2001) pick of Saxon Small Cap Fund manager Robert Tattersall. ""My guess is that with the consolidation we're seeing in the service industry, they'll either have to get bigger or become part of someone else's bigger structure," he says.
In February the company announced a normal course issuer bid that will see it repurchasing up to 5% of its stock by mid-February 2002.
