CHUM Limited is a major Canadian broadcaster with 27 radio stations, seven independent television stations and ten specialty channels. The company also distributes background music for business. It is the exclusive distributor for Muzak in Canada.
The company's flagship television property is CITY TV in Toronto, Canada's largest independent television station. CITY's approach has often been hailed as revolutionary and television of the future . This format has been adapted to CHUM's other television properties - the "New XX" stations which include the "New VR" in Barrie, Ontario, the "New RO" in Ottawa, as well as the "New PL", the "New NW" and the "New WI", in London, Wingham and Windsor respectively.
CHUM's specialty channels include the ever popular MuchMusic (You gotta love Ed the Sock!), as well as arts and entertainment channel Bravo, and Space - the place for sci-fi buffs.
CHUM's radio network includes flagship CHUM AM and CHUM FM in Toronto, CKGM AM and CHOM FM in Montreal, and CFUN AM and CHQM FM in Vancouver.
The driving force behind CHUM's television empire is Moses Znaimer, widely recognized for transforming the medium with CITY's innovative approach to television. The company was recently licensed for CIVI TV in Victoria, British Columbia, a new station to be launched in the fall of 2001. It will follow the CITY TV formula.
Since 1995, CHUM has also maintained an active Internet presence for its properties, many linked above. Others include Sex TV (tied to a weekly half-hour program on CITY TV), and Fashion Television (ditto).
