| On September 21,
1999 Chapters Inc. launched the much anticipated IPO of
its subsidiary, Chapters Online. Over $45 million was raised, money Chapters Online will use to "continue to develop Canada's premier e-commerce site". The company is already Canada's largest e-tailer, selling books, software, CDs, videos, and DVDs. You might call it Canada's answer to Amazon.com. In fact, earlier in 1999, Chapters.ca was named Canadian Website of the Year by Internet World. Parent company Chapters, Inc. is Canada's largest book retailer with stores in every province. Not only do they operate the Chapters Books megastores, they also own and operate Coles, SmithBooks, LibrairieSmith, The Book Company and World's Biggest Bookstore. The company also manages a number college and university bookstores including the one at McGill University. Chapters Inc. retains over 70% interest in Chapters Online. Shares Outstanding:
