its trademark of "Connecting People to
Information", Eicon is focused on developing,
marketing and supporting hardware and software products
for connecting servers and individual computers to
corporate intranets, host computers and the Internet. Its products include its EiconCards interface cards for WANs and its Diva line of interface cards which supply ISDN connectivity solutions for desk top and notebook computers as well as servers. Eicon's Aviva line of software products enable personal computers to access mainframe IBM hosts through an SNA gateway. In January 1999 Eicon acquired Trisignal Communications through which it is now supplying the modem technology for Sega's Dreamcast, the first videogame with Internet capability. Eicon is an international company with sales in 80 countries wordwide. 77% of sales are in Europe where Eicon is a leader in the burgeoning ISDN market. In March 2000, Eicon issued an earnings warning for the quarter ending March 31, 2000. It anticipates sales to have declined 30% for the quarter and profits to evaporate from $0.02 a share to a $0.40 to $0.50 loss. This caused an immediate 30% drop in the stock's price, but the company's future looks solid. It's European base is solid and it has invested heavily in developing Diva for ADSL which should be released in June 2000. Eicon Technology was added to Pat McKeough's Stock Pickers Digest recommended list in January 2000, largely because of the company's investment in ADSL which Pat believes will eventually be more popular than cable modems are now.
