statement puts it best. Genomics One strives "to
overcome human suffering through the development of
enabling gene discovery tools that shed light on the
pivotal role played by DNA in human well-being." Founded in 1995 by Dr. Suzanne Lebel and Dr. Steve N. Slilaty, two researchers with 25 years of experience developing and commercializing biotechnology products, Genomics One has been focused largely on the development of cloning technology platforms for DNA research. It had long been thought that certain DNA sequences were unclonable, but in 1998 Drs. Lebel and Slilaty successfully developed their patented TrueBlue® Technology. The technology is used as a tool by other researchers by providing a rapid, efficient gene cloning infrastructure. The company contracts out services to other biotech companies as well as selling what are called cloning vectors - the tools enabling the cloning process in DNA. TrueBlue® was trademarked in the US in February 1999 and in Canada in October the same year. This was followed up by successful patent applications, the most recent one granted in October 2000. Besides DNA cloning technology, the company is also engaged in industrial enzymes, protein expression and gene therapy and research. In July 2000, Genomics One acquired the Bio/Can Group of Companies, a biotechnology product distribution company. Other subsidiaries are molecular biology supply houses Gordon Technologies in Canada and Tetra-Link Inc. in the US. Recent projects include work on the rice genome, influenza, staphylococcus and whooping cough. The Human Genome Project is still in its infancy and Genomics One is a pioneer in this field.
