Ontario, B.C. and Alberta are usually considered the hotbeds of high tech industry in Canada, but Maritimers are no slouches in that department either. Consider Newfoundland's Regional Cablesystems, or P.E.I.'s Iwav.com or Nova Scotia's InfoInterActive.

The company's founder and CEO is Bill McMullin, named by Ernst & Young as the Young/Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year for the Atlantic Region on Oct. 8th, 1999. McMullin had developed one of the first cellular phone businesses in the Maritimes before selling it to found InfoInterActive.

In 1997 the company launched Internet Call Manager (ICM), the first and still the most widely used Internet Call Management software. The patented technology notifies dial-up Internet user of incoming calls with an interactive pop-up window that displays the caller's name, phone number, city and province. Then, using the powerful call management options, the user can transfer the call to another number, send the call to voice mail, play the caller one of two prerecorded messages, or disconnect from the Internet and answer the call.

"We believe that Internet Call Waiting will become as popular with Internet users as Call Waiting is with telephone users," says McMullin.

In late 1999 the company announced development of its Flexline version of ICM for broadband services. It also announced a Linux version of the program.

The company boasts a superb list of partnerships including such well known names as Bell Atlantic, Sprint Canada, Telus and Look Communications.

On Feb. 28, 2000 the company announced that Intel Corporation will license Internet Call Manager and FlexLine for its new family of Intel-branded Web appliances. Intel also took a 9.9% interest in the company infusing it with $6 million in cash.

Fourth quarter results to Dec. 31, 1999 showed revenues for fiscal 1999 up 325% over the previous year. The subscriber base had increased to 150,000 from 60,000 the previous quarter. Losses, however, had also increased from $0.12 per share in 1998 to $0.18 per share in 1999, largely as a result of increased R&D spending.
