Stantec is an international consulting company for infrastructure and facilities projects. They employ over 3000 employees in 40 offices across North America, providing planning, design, implementation and management services for five market segments - Urban Land, Environment, Buildings, Transportation and Industrial.
Clients range from municipal and regional governments to industrial clients. Projects include sewage treatment, rapid transit, landscape architecture, building design, and industrial projects in fields such as pharmaceuticals, mining, energy, manufacturing and forestry.
One of the company's core competencies is in the environmental area with expertise in wastewater treatment and electric arc furnaces. They also develop custom designed software for infrastructure management.
Generally, Stantec handles projects costing less than $100 million, but they do undertake larger projects through partnerships and joint ventures.
The Alberta-based company posted record results for the fourth quarter to Dec. 31, 2000. This marked the 47th consecutive year of profitability for Stantec - a record hard to match anywhere. Highlights for 2000 include the acquisition of DS Atlantic, a services firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina, establishing a presence in the Southeastern United States. Stantec also strengthened its position in other regions with the acquisition of companies in Utah, Colorado and Arizona. In March 2001, Stantec bought The Spink Corporation in Sacramento, California.
The company plans to continue its growth strategy with the goal of joining the ranks of the Top Ten Global Design firms.
