Incorporated in 1975 as a joint venture with Wihuri Oy of Helsinki, Finland, Winpak has grown to become a leader in the field of modified atmosphere packaging for the perishable food and pharmaceutical industries. The company has grown steadily, acquiring specialty film facilities in 1988, conversion facilities in 1992, and rigid plastic packaging capabilities in 1993. The company also designs and manufactures packaging machinery.
Winpak operates ten plants in Canada and the United States, supplying customers throughout the Americas and Pacific Rim. It serves the European market through a strategic alliance with Wipak, one of Europe's leading packaging companies and a subsidiary of partner Wihuri Oy.
The Winnipeg-based company strives to stay on top of technological innovation in the industry and its heavy investment in state-of-the-art equipment has kept it a leading low-cost producer of high-quality products.
Winpak went public in 1986. After hovering around the $10 mark until 1991, the stock has appreciated steadily since. It suffered a setback in 2000, but has recently broken out to new highs again and looks poised to continue its upwards progression.
