Oil prices have soared by fifty percent over the last two months, and some analysts are saying this marks a turnaround in the commodities markets. And so I have revamped and expanded my collection of Energy, Oil & Gas Net Links and in this article, select the ten I think you'll find most useful. Although I sometimes include a humorous Top Ten List a la Letterman, this time it's just the straight goods.
As usual, they are listed in alphabetical order and the focus is on the Canadian energy industry, although there is one international link. See my Links page for additional websites.
Many of these websites are industry related and not specifically geared to investors, but the information they contain may be useful to investors.
1. Canadian Wellsite - This site calls itself the "Homepage for the Canadian Oilpatch" and "was designed to be used as a tool by anyone who provides a service at the wellsite, from the acquisition of the lease, right through to its abandonment and clean up". In other words, it caters to the industry. Investors may find its Bulletin Board and Events Calendar worth checking out.
2. Discovery Place - Discovery Place is the most extensive Canadian Oil Industry resource on the Internet. Features include business and consultants directories, properties and prospects for sale, a careers section and online discussion groups. Its business directory is extensive and includes links to companies that have web pages.
3. Energy Stock Page - This website presents a detailed analysis and profile of a promising junior Canadian oil or gas stock twice a month. Previous profiles are archive going back to 1997. Their portfolio page charts the track records of their picks, noting both highs reached and current levels.
4. NCE Resources Group - NCE Resources manages tax sheltered investment trusts and limited partnerships in the energy field. Its sister company, Sentry Select Capital, manages hard asset mutual funds focused on precious metals, energy and real estate.
5. Nickle's Energy Group - Nickle's has been publishing trade journals for the oil and gas industry since 1937. The website includes many free features including daily oil and gas prices, new well licenses, and a calendar of events. Subscription lets you access drill activity maps, daily oil industry news and news archives.
6. Oilweek Online - Oilweek has been publishing a weekly newsletter and monthly magazine since 1948. The website does not provide much free information, but this is a premier Canadian oil industry publication so I have included it in the list. It's published by McLean-Hunter.
7. Petroleum Communication Foundation - This is an industry public relations company with the motto "We talk to Canadians about Canada's petroleum industry". They publish a wide assortment of pamphlets, newsletters and brochures including "Taking the Mystery Out of Gasoline Prices". Many of the publications are available online.
8. Petroleum Services Association of Canada - Although this association is aimed at serving the industry, there is a wealth of information investors may find useful. Their membership list includes capsule profiles on each company including locations of offices, phone numbers and links to websites. You'll also find industry forecasts and other data.
9. Petroleum Stocks - This online oil and gas resource for investors focuses on the North American industry. Includes daily news, an oil & gas company database, selected short profiles of companies and discussion forums. The site is a part of the Stockgroup.com group of financial websites operating out of Vancouver, B.C..
10. World Oil - This international oil publication is free in print form to people working in the industry. The website and its extensive collection of articles, industry stats and editorials is free to anyone cruising on in.
