Movers & Shakers for July 12-16, 1999

Click on the title above to see this week's Movers & Shakers. This week there are 21 stocks out of the 73 on our various indexes that moved 10% or more last week. Ten were gainers and eleven were decliners.

Ten were also on last week's list, some declining after substantial gains, others in a second week of decline, and of course, the ones we like, the ones in a second week of strong gains. The top three on our list - Innofone, Cybersurf and Travelbybus.com are all in a second week of double digit gains as is Microforum. On a second week of double digit losses are the two at the bottom of the list - Stockscape.com and Realm Group, as well as Softnet Industries. Topclick, IGN and Dejour Mines dropped after substantial gains, but all are still on the plus side of the ledger.

New Additions to Our Indices

We added three new stocks to our various indexes this week. JDS Uniphase was added to our Canadian Internet Stock Average. This company is the result of the recent merger between Canada's JDS Fitel and the American Uniphase. The new company is trading on both the TSE and the NASDAQ as JDU and JDSU respectively. JDS Uniphase is a leader in fiber optic technology.

I had not added the company to our list previously as I thought of the company more as a communications infrastructure company than as an Internet company, but the importance of such infrastructure to the growth and expansion of the Internet means that the company is benefiting and will continue to profit from the Net. By way of comparison, Internet.com includes Cisco Systems in its Internet Stocklist but does not include Qwest or Microsoft.

The Cabot Market Letter recently started covering JDS Uniphase and recommends it as a buy currently. It notes that both Nortel Networks and Lucent are JDS Uniphase customers.

But this week I want to focus on the other two additions to our lists - both on our Yankee Index of Canadian Net stocks sold exclusively on American exchanges. Click on the names below for their profiles.
