Dateline: 10/12/99
Yours truly just returned from four days attending an About.com convention in Las Vegas. It was an entertaining and energizing experience which generated a lot of discussion and ideas, some of which will be implemented on these pages in the not too distant future.
Our purpose is to serve you, our reading public, by providing a handy, quick and convenient way to retrieve the information you're looking for on any particular topic. There's no way, of course, that we covered every possible concern and interest of our readers, so if you have any sugestions on ways I can improve these pages for you, please email me. We love to hear from you!
Click on the title above for a table of this week's Movers & Shakers.
13 of the 58 stocks on our Canadian Internet Stock Average rose or fell by 10% or more for the week ending October 8th, 7 advancing and 6 declining.
Of particular note are the giant stocks. In fact, you might call it the week of the giants as Nortel Networks, BCE and JDS Uniphase all rose by over ten percent for the week. All are multi-billion dollar companies and all are on the TSE 300 Index. Together they make up over 20% of the Index. Be sure to read Bill Hanley's interesting Saturday column, 800 lb gorillas gaining weight in the National Post.
Top of the list this week is Net Shepherd, a company facilitating e-commerce solutions for business. It jumped 37.0%.
Close behind is EmNet which jumped 30.0% for the week. EmNet is in its second consecutive week of major gains and is up over 50% from two weeks ago. The VSE listed company provides live entertainment on the Internet through its wholly owned subsidiary, BuyBroadway Online. With over 20,000 pages, BuyBroadway's website is the largest live entertainment site on the Internet and hosts the official websites for such Broadway productions as Titanic, Rent, Death of a Salesman, Footloose, The Sound of Music, Annie, and Peter Pan.
The company is also strategically partnered with America Online.
On the downside, Softcare Electronic Commerce is in its second straight week of double digit drops.
The Canadian Internet Stock Average has been updated with Friday's closing prices. The Yankee Index was not updated this week, but will be revised again next Monday as usual. And, of course, if you're interested in the penny stocks - the Internet stocks trading under a dollar, be sure to check out our Canadian Internet Penny Stock List.
