Monthly Mutuals Analysis
Dateline: 10/16/99
It's not surprising that we find gold and precious metals mutual funds topping the one month performance charts to the end of September. Gold soared! Looking at the Top 25 One Month Funds as recorded at The Vancouver Sun website, we see that the top 16 are all gold and precious metals funds as are five others. The rest are two Asian funds, a specialty fund and a growth fund.
The largest increase for the month was O'Donnell World Precious Metals Fund which jumped 30.97% in value. In fact, all of the precious metals funds listed at GLOBEfund did better than 10% for the month.
The Three Month Performance Charts are still dominated by Asian funds, fifteen of them, but the precious metals are starting to move into this chart as well with six funds making the list. With the nose dive the markets took this past week, it will be interesting to see what the rest of October portends.
Our Power Performers have declined in number to 13 from 21 the month before, reflecting the weakening stock market. Our portfolios follow, and as you'll note, our Power Performers Portfolio has moved 100% into cash and our RRSP Performers Portfolio is 80% cash.
