The top two stocks on our Movers & Shakers list doubled on news of major deals. In fact, big news often propels a stock to new highs, and with Internet stocks, the gains can be significant. We're not talking small deals here - a new contract here or a new contract there. We're talking big deals - deals with major American or international corporations recognized as leaders in their field. Such deals signify that the company has become a major player. It is no longer a blip on the investing landscape. It has been recognized.

The two deals? Our list topper, InfoInterActive announced that no less a company than Intel is licensing its Internet Call Manager technology. The second deal - Infowave Software announced a major deal that sees international wireless phone company Nokia using its technology.

Read on for details.

Movers & Shakers

We added a few stocks to our list this week including eight graduated from our Penny Stock list and four new additions bringing the total number of stocks tracked to 137. Of these, 66 were double digit movers with 58 advancers and only 8 decliners, a significant improvement from the previous week. To see the Movers & Shakers as a pop-up chart, click the button. To see it as a separate page with the discussion on the same page, click here.

Topping our list this week is Infointeractive (IIA - TSE) which doubled with a 102.22% gain on news that Intel will license some of its key products. The deal has Intel taking a 9.9% interest in the company with a purchase of 1.8 million shares from treasury. The products to be licensed are Infointeractive's Internet Call Manager and its broadband version - Flexline.

Internet Call Manager allows people to be notified of an incoming call while surfing the net and either answer the call or forward it to voicemail. The Halifax based company already had excellent partnerships with major phone companies such as Bell Atlantic using their products. The subscriber base was over 150,000 by the end of last year.

Infointeractive's founder and CEO Bill McMullin was named Entrepreneur of the Year for the Atlantic Region on October 8, 1999 by Ernst and Young. Before starting Infointeractive, the thirty something year old McMullin had developed one of the first cellular telephone businesses in the Maritimes, a business he later sold. The company topped our Movers & Shakers list previously on Nov. 1st.

Another huge mover this week was Infowave Software (IW - CDNX) with a 98.46% jump. Propelling the stock to new highs was a major deal with Nokia to develop and market wireless services.

The company has two operating divisions - an imaging software division which makes PowerPrint, a package that enables Apple computers to use PC based printers. And it also has a Wireless Division which develops products such as Symmetry, introduced in September. This intelligent PC software connects your existing pager or PCS phone to your desktop Outlook email, contacts, schedule and task lists.

Third on the list is Electric Mail (ELE - CDNX), up 91.67%. The email outsourcer soared after it was given the sole 5-Star rating by PC Computing magazine for its Electric Webmail product in an article in the April 2000 issue on outsourcing corporate email. It beat out such competing companies as Critical Path, Mail.com and USA.net. The April issue is not yet on the news-stands, but the article was pre-released at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association's (CTIA's) "Wireless 2000" conference in New Orleans this week.

The Vancouver based company has strategic alliances with AT&T Global Network, Lotus, Novell and Telus. Its client list includes Delta Hotels, Fuji Photo Film Canada, HSBC Bank of Canada and Placer Dome.

The company has had its ups and downs and dropped off our list of monitored stocks in December after trading under a dollar a share for three weeks. But a change in management, the acquisition of Steel Wave, a sales and marketing agreement with PCsupport.com and, of course, the PC Computing article, has propelled the stock forward. It's up 626.32% for the year.

Fourth on the list is recently added RDM Corporation (RC - CDNX) with an 87.50% gain. RDM (which stands for Research Development and Manufacturing) is a leading developer of check processing and electronic payment technology. Its products are used in 35 countries and its client list includes such major corporations as Xerox, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Canon, Chase Bank and the Royal Bank.

Its products employ Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) solutions. Their RDM EC5000i device lets merchants process checks electronically, greatly reducing costs and facilitating ease of use.

RDM has also branched out to the Internet. Its newest product is Xign, an eCheck software solution that lets digitally signed and encrypted payments to be sent via email. The product was developed while RDM participated in the Electronic Check Project, a cooperative venture involving more than fifteen banks, companies and government agencies.

The U.S. Treasury completed its first Internet payment using RDM's technology in a pilot project in June 1998. Since then Treasury has processed more than $8 million worth of checks this way. It is now making the eCheck technology available to other U.S. government agencies.

The company was featured in the February 2000 issue of The FutureStock Review and bopped around the $2 - $2.25 level for a while after that. It suddenly soared this week, not on news, but, the company speculates, on "increased awareness of the Company and its products".

And fifth on our list is WSI Interactive (WIZ - CDNX, WIZZF - OTCBB ), up 82.69% on announcements of agreements to purchase exclusive rights to Global Communication's Broadband Telecommunications System in British Columbia and the State of Washington. This was followed by a strategic alliance with WatchOut! Inc. which has the same rights for Ontario and Washington, D.C..

WSI is an Internet incubator, acquiring interests in and developing nascent e-businesses. It is patterned after the wildly successful CMGI in the U.S.. Current interests include Medianetsolutions.com, Targetpacks.com, Westernshores.com, Stocksecrets.com, Yourwinestore.com, Healthcreator.com, and Investmentworldnews.com.

Showing multiple weeks of double digit gains on our list are

On a second week of double digit decline are SAMsports.com which is trading below a dollar a share and will be moved to the Penny List if it doesn't recover next week, and Chapters Online which is the poorest performing stock on our list with a loss of 55.11% for the year to date.

Erratum: Please note a correction to last week's numbers. We listed SLMsoft as our fourth biggest mover with a 61.43% increase. However, we erred when we divided our list in two to make it more manageable at the site where we track our list. We entered the right symbol, ESP.A, but it came up as an American stock - Espey Manufacturing on the American Exchange. Oops! The stock actually moved less than 10% last week, though it gained over 30% this week.
