One of the wacky things about doing these Internet Update pages weekly is that I've been doing them as an information source for readers, but not as information for myself to follow in my own stock selection. And I've been cautious not to expressly recommend the stocks I follow here as "buy" recommendations. Readers are advised to do their own due diligence and perhaps even to consult a professional advisor before buying stocks.

That said, I have occasionally ventured out and bought stocks followed here, most notably Ezenet, which I bought at $8.60 after it topped our Movers & Shakers Report on Feb. 7th. The stock had jumped from $4.00 to $6.95 that week and hit $8.60 before I bought. It made my stomach queazy to buy a stock that had just doubled in price. But I bit the bullet because I liked the company's story and I had seen two stocks I had written up and not bought soar subsequently - USA Video and Medcomsoft.com.

The purchase was a good one - Ezenet closed at $29.00 on Friday, a 3-bagger in just over a month. But two weeks ago, after writing up Galaxy Online which had jumped from $1.45 to $2.50 for the week ending Feb. 25th, I got cold feet. The stock had jumped to $3.75 by the time I checked it on Monday Feb. 28th and my reaction was "Holy cow! That's too rich for my blood!" Bad move. The stock tops our list this week and is now at $8.00!

This, and my article of last week - N is for News - led me to go back and review all of our Mover & Shaker Reports for the year and see how the five top stocks on each list have done since. The results were amazing and are included in a special Movers & Shakers Update. Click here to see it.

Meanwhile, read on for this week's Movers & Shakers Report!

Movers & Shakers

We moved two stocks to our monitored list from our Penny Stock List and we also added two others bringing the total number of stocks watched to 141. Of these, 60 were double digit movers, but the ratio of advancers to decliners has slipped considerably. This week saw only 36 advancers compared to 58 last week and 24 decliners to only 8 the week before. To see the Movers & Shakers as a pop-up chart, click the button. Topping our list is a stock we first charted here Feb. 28th when it was second on the list - Galaxy Online (GOLI - CDN) - which more than doubled this past week. The company is an Internet Service Provider using bi-directional satellite technology. This week it announced the acquisition of privately held Toronto networking company Moby Dark Inc.. That company has developed advancements in scalable wireless routing technology, fixed wireless, and networked video applications.

And although it was announced a week before, the media just picked up on a well known appointment to Galaxy's board of directors - Kenneth Taylor. If the name sounds familiar, it's because it's the same Kenneth Taylor who, as a diplomat in Iran, spirited Americans out of the country under late unlamented rule of the Ayatollah Khomeini. That action garnered Taylor the United States Congressional Gold Medal. His private sector activities since then has included six years as Senior Vice President of both Nabisco Brands and RJR Nabisco.

Second on the list is sports education software vendor SAMsports.com (SAM - CDNX) with a 92.31% jump. The company stock price seemed headed for oblivion declining to as low as $0.65 on March 3rd. But investors decided this week that the $900,000 financing announced the week before has given the company new legs.

Third on our list is Technovision Systems (TVS - CDNX) with an 89.60% rise. Operating as UNIServe Online, the company is the third largest Internet Service Provider in British Columbia serving 275 different communities. Through growth and acquisitions the company now has a client base of 34,000. On Feb. 28th it announced the takeover of Seaside Internet, a small ISP with 2000 customers serving Duncan, B.C.. The company is profitable with an income of $611,008 on sales of $3,009,041 for the six months ended November 30, 1999. Earnings per share were $0.03 compared to $0.05 for the same period in 1998.

Fourth on our list is gearunlimited.com (GU - CDNX), an online retailer of action adventure gear and accessories. On Mar. 3 the company announced an agreement with Outside Magazine (circulation 575,000) to beef up gearunlimited's online e-zine content with articles from Outside and its Outside Online website. Outside Online also features gearunlimited in its Buyer's Zone.

And on March 8th, the company announced it is sponsoring "Get Kranked 3", the latest film from Radical Films of Whistler, B.C. which produces films about extreme mountain biking. The film is expected to reach an audience of 60,000.

Gearunlimited's stock price shot up 71.43% for the week.

Finally, holding down the number five spot on our list is Carbiz.com (CZ - CDNX), up 64.77%. The company was featured in the top five here January 17th and again on January 31st. It has continued to soar, up 583.96% for the year to date. This week's gains were spurred by the announcement that it was acquiring automotive extended warranty vendor Abbey Canada Inc.. Carbiz.com also obtained $13.5 million in additional financing for expansion in mid-February.

Sporting multiple weeks of double digit growth are:

Down for a second week are Dot.com Technologies (DT - CDNX) and Nexttrip.com (NTP - CDNX).
