Support America! Buy!
Some Editorial Comments

Dateline: Sept. 13, 2001

The attack on America Tuesday was sickening beyond belief. It is without doubt the most horrendous event I've ever witnessed. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the victims of this horror. The best way to honour the dead and injured is to soldier on, sullied but unbowed. To emerge stronger, not weaker.

The stock markets of North America were closed Tuesday and Wednesday in the wake of the devastating terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Friday, or maybe as late as Monday, they will re-open and most analysts expect the markets to suffer severe losses as investors scramble to get out of stocks into "safe" securities. So what I am about to suggest may seem counter-intuitive. But listen up. If you have extra funds - buy stocks. Don't sell. Here's why.

The terrorist suicide squads that wreaked this madness are sworn enemies of Western civilization. They have acted out a long-held desire to destroy America and Western civilization and usher in an era of religious fundamentalism - a fundamentalism that hates capitalism, hates wealth, hates success, but mostly hates the fact that liberal democracy fosters independent and creative people who can think for themselves, make their own choices, and embrace personal happiness and achievement as worthy and valid goals. A people who oppose the cult of conformity and authoritarianism, people who are not cowed by the edicts of the ayatollahs and refuse to kowtow to fascist dictators.

These terrorists want to destroy our way of life. And part of that goal is to destroy the market system and its symbol - the stock market. The attack on the heart of American capitalism, the World Trade Center, was no accidental choice. It wasn't just two large buildings. They were symbols. These terrorists would relish the stock market crashing when it reopens. They would relish seeing billions of dollars wiped out in the aftermath just as billions of dollars, not to mention thousands of lives, were wiped out in the last two days.

There can be no better way of giving these totalitarian thugs the finger than to have investors refuse to cave in to fear and terror and to see the American markets hold their ground and even advance in the face of this crisis.

Forget about fear and even prudence. Support America. Support capitalism. Support Western civilization. Take the moral and ethical high ground and support our way of life. Refuse to give in to fear and terror. Don't sell. Buy stocks when the market opens.
