Milpitas, CA

A note from Ann:

I convinced Scott Kurnit to let me open a Milpitas, CA site, as the city really needed a community forum and, though the city isn't very well known, many well-known high tech companies are located here. The site opened right along with the opening of TMC back in February, 1997.

Two years later, I was asked if I would mind if they changed the name to "San Jose." Well, yes, I did, since I didn't live in San Jose and that city already had several well-financed websites. I suggested that the logical growth path would be to have a Silicon Valley site, but that suggestion was turned down. So Milpitas was closed. Later they did take my suggestion, and the Palo Alto site became the Silicon Valley site.

When Milpitas was closed, I was told it would be OK to set up the content on my own server, so I did, and thus Go Milpitas! was started. It now has over 300 pages of information and events, and has been touted as a top community website.

It is financed by affiliate relationships, advertising and co-branded websites. If I develop the co-branded site, I also make substantial income on that.
